Anyone know anything about this?
I got a flyer near my door the other day, about a meeting in the city for a "Cure for Gayness." I meant to check into it further, but wound up losing the flyer. My memory may be faulty, but as far as I can remember, it was a meeting to explain progress in the scientific community on current research on the biological nature of people born gay. It did not seem to be Christian-based "therapy" or whatever they call it.

What stuck in my brain was the phrasing. Is there a link somewhere to legitimate science or crackpot group promoting a "cure for gayness?" First I've encountered it.

1. I have not seen it, but it is most likely religious bigotry masquerading as science.
Similar to creationist methods... taking snippets of science & pseudo-science & morphing them to suit their agenda.

2. It's a bit like Intelligent Design
Reparative therapy is still promoted based on a bunch of religious gobbledy-gook, but now various religious organizations have decided to give their nonsense the patina of scientific respectability by discussing it in pseudo-psychological terms. "See! It's real science!"

Except it's not. It's religion under disguise.

4. I was quoting
Not my phrasing, but the only part of it I can quote because it was so unusual.

13. there is no science to "curing" sexuality
The real-world science is that straight people have same gender sex without turning gay, gays of either gender have sex with the opposite gender and don't turn "straight", some people don't have and aren't even interested in sex, and some people feel compelled to identify their entire identity as some title for an abstract thing based on what they do most often with their pink parts.

Being gay is cultural, first and foremost NOT a mechanical sexual act. Anyone who's ever masturbated has certainly been "gay for play" for themselves, regardless of how they describe themselves if one were to accept that sexual orientation = a particular sex act.

The only element requiring curing is the perception that there's anything wrong with being "gay" at all. Can you imagine someone putting out flyers about a "Cure for Green Eyes" or "Cure for Masturbation" or "Cure for Catholicism"?
