Poll: Brown still leads in Calif. governor’s race
Poll: Brown still leads in Calif. governor’s race
By The Associated Press
12.17.2009 8:34am EST

(Sacramento, Calif.) A survey released Wednesday by the Public Policy Institute of California shows Jerry Brown would best any of the three Republicans vying for their party’s nomination but would not have a 50 percent majority against any of them.

In a matchup against billionaire former eBay chief executive Meg Whitman, Brown leads just 43 percent to 37 percent.

Brown surprised many in 2008, when he filed court papers calling for the overturning of Proposition 8, which banned equal marriage in California, declaring that “the amendment process cannot be used to extinguish fundamental constitutional rights without compelling justification.” Usually, sitting attorneys general are required to uphold and defend all state laws.

Brown, the state’s attorney general and a former two-term governor, has yet to officially announce a run for the Democratic nomination but has been furiously fundraising and has chased nearly all challengers from his party’s field.

Some Democrats are growing concerned about his wait-it-out strategy.

1. Another Republican governor would cripple the state
I'm hearing Whitman's radio commercials and they're truly frightening. If you listen closely she hints at reducing regulation and social spending, lowering taxes on the wealthy, and supporting charter schools.

2. I like Jerry's wait and see strategy.
Let the other fools get out on the stage under the hot spotlight.

Time and money are all on Jerry's side.

3. Jerry Brown Is Cool In My Book...
but even if he wasn't running, almost anyone would be better than any of the Republicans. Ahhhnold the Governator has made a disaster out of California and things could only get worse with another Rethuglican in office. I hope the people in California wake up, smell the coffee, and refuse to vote for the Rethugs.
