Westlife's Mark Feehily comes out

Mark Feehily of the popular British boy band Westlife has come out, reports The Daily Mirror. "I want people to know the truth," Feehily, 25, told the Mirror. "I am gay, and I'm very proud of who I am. I'm not asking for sympathy or to be a role model for someone else. I simply felt it was the right time to tell the truth." Feehily, who has been in a relationship for several months with singer Kevin McDaid (formerly of the band V), went on to say, "I'm not worried about how people react because I'm happy being who I am. I'm still the same person the day I was before. I'm sure Westlife fans will be pleased I'm happy. I don't think it changes anything. All the lads in Westlife have settled down and are in relationships, so why can't I be?" A platinum-selling act in the United Kingdom, Westlife has up until now had only minor impact in the U.S.

Mark is the lead singer in most of the group's songs. In Europe and around the world (save the US) they are mega-stars.

1. Oh my!
He's a cute one, isn't he?

Don't know him from Adam, mind you, because as an over-50 lesbian I don't pay much attention to boy bands. But I'm not so old or so gay that I can't notice he's hot. :)

I always felt he had that little "gay" twinkle in his eye. :P

3. good for him
we need more role models for our community--not just entertainers but people in all walks of like

but when a celebrity comes out, I do applaud them because they're putting their career at risk in a way few of us can understand

bravo!

and I hope the GLBT supports him and his band and his relationship with boyfriend
