Group Pushes to Overturn Iowa Marriage Equality
Iowa marriage equality foes are ramping up pressure on state legislators to support a constitutional ban on gay marriage.

The Iowa Family Policy Council’s Bryan English told the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier that the group is asking 150 state lawmakers where they stand on a ballot measure similar to California’s Proposition 8 and Maine’s Question 1 — both of which stripped same-sex couples of state marriage rights. The group also intends to hold a “two days for marriage” rally next month in Des Moines.

A proposed constitutional amendment has to be approved by the general assemblies in two consecutive sessions before it goes to voters. If the legislature does not act on the matter in 2010, the earliest the amendment could be before Iowan voters would be 2013 or 2014.

"Our passion about it is stronger than it maybe even was last April,” English said, referring to the Iowa supreme court’s unanimous decision to overturn a state gay marriage ban. “Folks have had a chance to think about the implications of what's going on here and they're becoming more and more convinced here that the only remedy here is to let us vote."

However, state house and senate leaders have stated their opposition to a gay marriage ban and said they do not plan to take up a resolution on the amendment next year.

7. Exactly.
There is no shortage of scapegoats and bogeymen to scare and rally the faithful into doing what you want.

8. Nothing draws them out from under their rocks like
the opportunity to battle against basic human rights that don't fit into their primitive world views.

9. What Exactly Is "going on here", You Redneck Hillbilly Fuck?
How the hell does two men or two women getting married impact your life in ANY FUCKING WAY?

English and people like him should be sterilized and moved to an island in the middle of the Pacific. That big floating garbage pile comes to mind.

11. Interestingly, every single jurisdiction that extends marriage equality
is below the national average divorce rate.
Yeah, it's destroying their marriages.:sarcasm:

13. And the lowest divorce rate is currently in ... drum roll please...
Massachusetts.

That's right, the epicenter of the marriage equality fight.

As Rachel Maddow recently opined, it seems gay marriage seems to be saving "traditional" marriage.

12. These Asshats Are...
really getting on my nerves. This is just more of the religio-political wrong' mean-spirited BS. The bottom line is, even if a state votes marriage equality into law, these bastards would try court challenges or anything else they could think of to overturn it. Hopefully one day the majority of people in this country will see them for the mean-spirited, narrow-minded assholes that they are.

15. I love Iowa!
I would not live anywhere else. The fucking so-called Iowa Family Policy Council does not speak for me or my family. If they want a fight, a fight they shall get.
