Harold Ford, seeking Senate, flips on gay marriage

(New York) Former U.S. Rep. Harold Ford Jr. is readying for a fight in the race to challenge Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in this fall’s Democratic primary.

Ford, who represented Tennessee in the House, has said he has not decided yet whether to get into the New York U.S. Senate race, but he wrote a piece appearing in Tuesday’s New York Post in which he said he was “strongly considering running.” He is doing so, he said, because the nation is at its best when “we trust competition to refine the steel of our convictions and the truth of our arguments.”

Ford, 39, moved to New York and took a job with Merrill Lynch & Co. after losing the 2006 Tennessee Senate race. A Senate run in New York would buck the Democratic establishment.

Gillibrand was appointed to the seat by Gov. David Paterson after Hillary Rodham Clinton left to become secretary of state for the Obama administration, and the White House is backing her election.

4. Don't worry. He has no chance.
Gillibrand might be vulnerable to a challenge from the left, but Ford can't take that tack without looking completely ridiculous.

(Incidentally, Gillibrand does have a challenger from the left, labor activist Jonathan Tasini, but he has little money and little name recognition. The MSM are ignoring him. When he ran against Hillary Clinton in the 2006 primary, she refused to debate him, and he pulled only 17% of the vote. He'll probably do a little better this year, but not much.)

5. Ford?

What I know about Harold Ford is that he makes a lot of sense, those times I have seen him interviewed.

I also know that he was the target of the most viscious, unfair political attack from the despicable Republican Party that I have ever seen--right down there with John Kerry swiftboating filth. (But of course, sheltering whoremonger GOP Sen. David Vitter is ok???)

If Harold now supports full gay marriage, my view of him is only that much better. Everyone has a right to evolve on an issue. If pure politics? Hey, that's all good, too. The improved position is what matters.

7. It seems that Harold Ford thinks all voters are sheep who get their info from TV news.

This is the year 2010! Most middle age and nearly all young people get their news from the internet.

8. I've become a fan of Gillibrand.
I was initially skeptical of her, but she's really proven herself since she's taken her seat in the Senate. Ford is not a New Yorker and is pandering, I do not like him.
