Let me just say that I don't care if I am up on all the current politically correct terms. If I offend, it is not my intent.

You folks deserve a shot same as everybody else. Military,if you are willing to spill some blood and not complain about it, that's good enough. Marriage, it's supposed to be a free country for grown-ups. You should have the same opportunities as everyone else.

It is some real bullshit that you are treated like second class citizens. And the future doesn't really look that great.

I wish I could change things for you. I vote, and I write letters and stuff. It doesn't seem to do much good.But what I do is still better than not doing anything,at least I sleep better.

8. Believe it or not, we still have snow on the ground.

A while back we got hit with a record snowfall,30 inches.Then the temps went below freezing and stayed there. I had to dig out the driveway with a front end loader and back blade. I'm sick of it. The snow was so deep I couldn't hunt for a week. Now that we are finally thawing out, it is mud everywhere. Nothing's as slippery as mud with wet snow on top of it.
I'll be glad when it drys out.

Being country and in the south myself, I'll say it's especially appreciated. We could use some buddies around here.

My neighbors are actually pretty cool, though my county is a blue island. You might remember Caswell County as "ground zero" for Roots. The Klan got run out of here a long time back; it's ethnically pretty mixed; very, very remote and rural; and folks are "live and let live". But I have a 45-mile commute through Rockingham County where Klan and nutwingers are thicker'n thieves. Needless to say, I keep the car tuned and the tires in good shape.

Voting and writing are real good. Saying "howdy" to us when you see us goes a long way. Round here, folks still stick a hand up (two fingers, the country way) when we pass each other on the road. You can tell who hates "quars" when we wave. But when folks wave back, it's a nice feeling to know who neighbors are.

It's the little things, buddy. Lead by example. When the haters see we're not big, bad scary guys out to "git" them, they start loosening up.
