Virginia AG seeks to cut gays from higher ed discrimination policies

Virgina’s attorney general sent a letter to state colleges and universities asking officials to end policies banning discrimination based on sexual orientation, The Washington Post reported.

Ken Cuccinelli II, a Republican, wrote that it is up to the discression of the General Assembly to offer protections to gay and lesbian state employees. The Washington Post story stated the Legislature, as recently as this week, declined to take that postion.

“It is my advice that the law and public policy of the Commonwealth of Virginia prohibit a college or university from including ’sexual orientation,’ ‘gender identity,’ ‘gender expression,’ or like classification as a protected class within its non-discrimination policy absent specific authorization from the General Assembly,” he wrote.

All of Virginia’s leading colleges and universities have language offering protections on the basis of sexual orientation, something Cuccinelli said was done “without proper authority.”

3. Yes he is
But we who live in the Commonwealth must send our thanks to those voters that believed his BS.

Now we know that those and those who helped to put this pinhead into office are just as bigoted as Cuccinelli is!

4. Not likely
Especially if he can intervene in the funding that they receive from the legislature. As it stands right now even the Senate which is controlled by the Democrats haven't provided much support for the GLBT community.

5. Was anyone expecting something different?
At least his anti-Gay agenda is out in the open, and that the GLBT community won't be able to count on the state legislature to offer any kind of protections.

Now we can wait for the other shoe to drop, because I believe that this pinhead theocrat will try to get funding for any state college or university that doesn't tow his bigoted line, cut.

I doubt that many of these institutions of higher learning are going to stand up to this asshat for long.

6. I live just south of Danville in NC and we do almost all of our
shopping in Danville..Not that we spend that much , shit we dont have much left.
I guess we are going to have ot boycott and drive the 30 miles south to Burlington.
I doubt that a letter of any kind would have any effect though I have been published in the Danville Bee numerous times, usually to good effect.
