Won't do any good though. Religious folks saying okay, maybe the church has some issues but it's like my family and besides I'm not like that so just back off. And it's all wrapped up in the greater faith vs reason debate which will never be won by either side.

2. two very dangerous concepts |

that get people killed, wrapping one's self in a flag and wearing God's armor. In many instances both have led to death and misery.

3. Religion is flawed IMHO... |
|
That it why I am not religious. Religion to me is one of man's ways of reaching out to God. The problem with that, in my opinion is that man is flawed, corruptible, cruel, etc... There are no ends to which man will go to exploit their fellow man, be it through religion, charity, government, business, etc... But, all it would take is to realize this. I have read the Christian bible. I believe in it. I have yet to come across the part where we are supposed to judge people, to be bigoted towards people, to hate or to hold others to a different standard. I can quote quite the opposite.
Personally I think that school would make a bigger statement doing the opposite, instead the way they handled that situation leaves me thinking that they are a hate group. No different than the Klan. The have a focus of their bigotry and they carry it out, all the while denying an accelerated education to a child. Way to go! I love it when children are being exploited to promote a cause.

4. It is a tiny percentile of religion that doesn't embrace bigotry. |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 05:10 PM by TexasObserver
Humans created religion to serve the purpose of herding other humans in this life.
If one were to know nothing of Judaism or Christianity, and read the Bible from start to finish, one would never list on the summary of the book "the prohibition against homosexuality." Because you can't read the Bible and get that from it. You have to go into the Bible with that prejudice, searching for some scintilla upon which to hang the bigoted hat.

5. Religion exists to control others. |
|
If this wasn't so, we'd be arguing about hanging the Beatitudes in courthouses and schools instead of the 10 Commandments.
