So I'm helping out a GLBT 501(c)(3) non-profit, |
|
and was wondering if any of you DUers out there in GLBT land (or otherwise) who have worked with non-profits can give me a few pointers.
There is a GLBT community center in Idaho that has a library, videos and cds on LGBT issues that can be checked out, and free meeting space for LGBT specific groups. To top it off the center has published a newspaper for almost 27 years that they put out every month across Idaho.
They are very interested in moving to a location closer to downtown. There has been some talk of purchasing a two story building and putting cots as safe and secure emergency housing for LGBT youth on the top floor, and using the space below for the center's work. Eventually the center might expand to add a computer center, and free tutoring to help LGBT youth procure a GED if they need to.
But, as usual, they're running into funding issues. So my question for you, dear DUers, is do any of you know of programs that put out any LGBT specific grants? It would be really great if they could get an endowment, then the current money issues they're having (from the down economy) would be a thing of the past.
I don't know where to begin looking, and I'm not sure if there are any programs currently giving out endowment grants (with the economy being the way it is). I was hoping someone out there would know.
Thanks.
Q3JR4.
Also if you happen to be live in Boise, Idaho, and are on the look out for something interesting to do, I believe that this LGBT center is looking for new board members, FYI.

3. You might start here - "Funders for LGBTQ Issues" |
|
http://www.lgbtfunders.org/index.cfmGood luck! (and an aside) Grants geared to homeless / at risk youth and youth education / training services in general may have some set-asides specific to LGBT communities, so don't overlook those possibilities.

I know John Kerry has a vacation place in Sun Valley - you could write to him or Teresa, who is very pro-gay.
