North Carolina Gay Marriage Amendment Dies
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/09/090205ncBan.htm

North Carolina's legislature ended its session on Friday allowing a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage to die without coming to a vote.

The proposed amendment would not only have blocked same-sex marriage but would also have prevented the state and private employers from offering domestic partner benefits.

It is the second year in a row that the legislature has passed over the measure, making the state the only one in the South where an anti-gay amendment was being considered to twice put off voting.

2. I don't know.....
If they are all that "liberal", but NC is controlled by Democrats. Governor and both houses of the legislature. They have been successful (so far) in controlling this, but I don't know if we have any rabid RW group in the state who is pushing for the amendment. It just hasn't been a priority here... and I hope it stays that way!!

Well, this is terrific news! My congratulations to the North Carolina legislature! Indeed. Not too many people understand that most of these vitriolic anti-gay state constitutional amendments also affect the private sector/corporations within their states as well as the public sector jobs. Many state anti-gay amendments roll back years of progressive movement in gay rights in obtaining domestic partnership healthcare benefits, retirement benefits as well as years of progressive movement in the family law sphere and there are many other areas.

Do John Q. and Joan Q. Public truly know how spiteful, devastating, and all-reaching these anti-gay state amendments are across America?

Thank you North Carolina for being inclusive and empathic to your fellow human beings in allowing the legal progressions for gays to remain. May you, too, join Massachusetts in allowing same-sex marriage . . . come on, you can do it, North Carolina!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
