Out Gay Mayor of Palm Springs challenges Mary Bono Mack

This is getting ridiculous. We should be able to expect better from our Congressperson.

More than six months ago I challenged Mary Bono Mack to a public debate to discuss health care reform. At the time her campaign manager refused my request, saying that a debate with me would be "premature."

But now, months later, Bono Mack's campaign has put out two childish, misleading web cartoons attacking me for not talking about health care. This is the height of hypocrisy from a Congresswoman who has refused to debate me or any of her other opponents since 2002.

Click here to watch her latest silly cartoon and sign our petition calling on her to agree to a series of five public debates. This race is too important for her to hide behind cartoonists.

My position on health care reform has been clearly spelled out on my website for months. I believe we need to enact reforms that make health insurance more affordable and more accessible for all Californians. Though I don't think the recently passed health reform bill is perfect, I would have supported it because it will help achieve those goals for California's working families. The Congresswoman would know that if she had accepted my offer to debate.

My opponent voted against the health care bill. She also recently voted against a job creation package and she has repeatedly voted against extending unemployment benefits -- while the unemployment rate in our district has soared. She even supports ending Medicare.

Through those votes and others, she has shown how completely out of touch she is with the needs of the working families of Riverside County. Instead of working to help them, she apparently spends her time coming up with foolish web cartoons to distort the facts in this campaign.

Sign our petition now and tell Mary Bono Mack to stop hiding and agree to debate me on the issues that matter to her constituents.
