I had to drop a Facebook friend today |
|
Somebody who I only slightly knew in high school; she had friended me months ago and I reciprocated.
Well I saw that she joined some anti-gay marriage group recently, so I quietly dropped her from my friend list.
She plastered pictures of her wedding all over her page; evidently she thinks her relationship with her husband is so much more special and meaningful than any relationship a gay couple may have together.

1. I'm sorry your friend grew up to be an idiot |
|
Most of us grow up to be, well, grownups. I tend to think there are a lot more of us than there are of them, or we'd have slid back to living in trees a couple of millions of years ago and never progressed.
You'll make better friends.

2. I just recently got into Facebook |
|
and have reconnected with several people from my high school days. One friend of a friend who I actually was sort of friends with in high school had "Can this goat get more fans than Barack Obama" in his profile.
So I didn't bother to friend him. He may have been a "conservative" in high school 40 years ago. Now he's just an idiot.

3. Sorry you lost a friend. . .but she didn't seem to be such a good friend after all! |
|
I have lost several friends also due to political differences. But as long as we KNOW we are on the side of openness and tolerance, we know we are on the right side.

on Facebook too. She was one of my best friends and had an hysterical sense of humor. I haven't seen or talked to her in years though.
Unfortunately I see on her page that she has signed up as a fan of Glenn Beck. I didn't unfriend her, I just don't write or respond to her much anymore, now that I saw that.
So when I saw your post on the Latest Page, I just had to comment.
I am glad for you though that it wasn't a close friend you lost in this situation.

5. I'm experiencing something similar |
|
I even encouraged a former classmate to start a group for our class and the ones before and after us on Facebook, but after seeing what they had all turned into, I decided there was no use in going to a class reunion. I have nothing in common with them and I'd rather just remember them the way they were before this country became so divided.

6. That's how I feel too. I just want to remember the good times with them. |
|
Its sad how polarized this nation has become and how many friendships end up broken because of it.

9. I'd never thought of Facebook as a screening device |
|
for class reunions. That could be one of its better aspects.
I have dropped a couple people because of their statements or fan affiliations. One guy I have known for about 15 years, got a pro-Palin comment rolling, and a lot of his teabag friends chimed in and amplified his comments. I posted a correction to one of their non-facts and about an hour later, I noticed he had removed my comment.
Hmmm. "Did I embarrass you?" Well fuck you very much. Delete.

yes- I never really intended to go to any class reunions but when everyone got on Facebook it was kind of fun reminiscing before everyone's true colors started showing!

7. Really sorry about that... |
|
I recently came across a girl who I was very good friends with in grade school. I started to click the "Add as friend" button until i saw she belonged to the "Protect Traditional Marriage" group. I just passed her on by.

8. I have dropped plenty of people for those reasons. |
|
I am leery of adding someone I knew a decade or more ago. If I haven't talked to you in 20 some years, maybe we were not all that great of friends? I mean, really?

I play some of those games where you have to have like 5000 friends. So I see that crap all the time. I'm a pro at dropping "friends".
(LOL, of course, this doesn't really count . . . ) Sorry about losing your real friend.

13. I don't see the appeal of FB. It seems there's a lot of baggage in the reunion thing. |
|
Maybe people in your past are supposed to be there. But, maybe I'm just an emotionally closed off, wounded child who never felt the true warmth of unconditional acceptance... or some psychobabble bullshit like that.
