LONG BEACH, Calif. – Seven years after the Episcopal Church caused an uproar by consecrating its first openly gay bishop, it has done the same thing again — only this time with a woman.
The Rev. Canon Mary Glasspool, of Baltimore, was ordained and consecrated on Saturday, making her the second openly gay bishop in church history and one of the first two female bishops in the Diocese of Los Angeles' 114-year history.
She was installed at Long Beach Arena before 3,000 people, who burst into applause at the end, church spokesman Bob Williams said.
Just before the ceremony began, a man stood, shouted about the need to repent and held up a sign that read "Do not be deceived, homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of God."
After he was escorted out, a young boy in the same section rose holding a Bible and shouted similar slogans. Security guards also led him out.

Good for her! I'm sure she kept her cool even when the man and child (who was brainwashed into his hate by the man, I'm sure!) both stood up one after the other. These people are brave and breaking ground, and I'm happy for them!
What ticks me off in the comment sections, story after story, is the amount of votes the vile comments get. It never really changes, there's ton of hatred against GLBTers, and I scoff at the people who tell me 'you're not persecuted at all, it's shoved down our faces', because we are very much hated - very much. When you've got, say, half of society, disgusted by you, that's over 100 million Americans, and billions worldwide that judge GAY people for simply being Gay... Sick...
Just look at a few mostly hateful comments after their respective votes of approval or disapproval. Note: the 1st person is named PeaceOut and has a peace symbol as their avatar! And this was just from the 1st page of comments, there's over 100 pages of comments already, on just Yahoo! -----

Its nice too see that a religious group finally recognizes a person for their devotion to Christ and its people and not their sexual preference in life. We are all made in the image and likeness of God. As long as a person leads a good life and has a dedication to doing God's work, where is the damage. What is wrong with the people in this world.

Join the Episcopal Church no matter what your beliefs as they do not believe in anything. I am sure they will follow Caligula and appoint a horse as Bishop

gays are the opening to beging forced by liberal government to accept sexual perversions of all natures. If I am forced to accept gays how long can it be before will I also be forced to accept polgamists, phedophiles, beastiality, and the ability to marry my sofa. You say ti wont ever happen well thirty or forty years ago It was promised a personI would not have to change their belief that homosexuality was a deviant practice not accepted by GOD. Now I am being told oh you are intolerent and must accept the new truth as we the liberals see it. Well, see you hell you heretics and to the atheists, there is a special place in hell for non believers. Take your smores you are gonna need them.

Get Real!!! I would rather have a Openly Gay Episcopal Bishop than a Catholic Priest that hides behind the Robe and the Cross and Molesting little Kids in private.

Well, on one hand, homosexuality, the act of two individuals of the same sex having intercourse, irrefutably decried in all Biblical references. Sure, the argument has been made against it's denouncement in so far as the Old Testament books of Law are concerned and that it's just "one more arbitrary law we can just ignore" but it's the same man who cited the non-application of such laws in the Book of Acts, Paul, who also went on to affirm it's status in his letter to the Romans.
On top of that, however, Paul was a strict sexist who also penned the phrase, "do not suffer a woman to teach." All but the most introverted societies ignore that little gem, but there are arguments on both sides.
Ultimately, it's for this specific church to decide it's own stance, and if the parishioners agree, then the ruling will stand. If they all seek their religion elsewhere in light of this, or express outrage in sufficient amounts, the ruling will be retracted, plain and simple. As this is the church's second appointment, however, I see this ending in the former.

Good job, Episcopal Church. It's nice to see a religous organization that embraces the concepts of equality and respect for all people. This really makes the fake-Christian right-wing fascists angry.
