Pro-gay approach tried on battleship skeptics
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/09/07/BAGM2EJI7J1.DTL

There's a new battle plan for bringing the battleship Iowa to San Francisco.

The battleship's supporters now hope to gain the support of city leaders by turning part of the vessel into a museum about the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy and the contributions of gays, lesbians, ethnic minorities and women to the military.

The Board of Supervisors rejected the ship in July, and two supervisors explained their "no" votes by saying they objected to the military's policies toward gays and lesbians, while others opposed the war in Iraq.

very good idea--I'd support something like this

1. I want to see a picture...
Of the guy I knew when I was stationed in Alaska that got "caught", kicked out, and beat up a few times in the process. I'd like to see his black eye as their damned legacy of "don't ask, don't tell" policy". LIke to see that. And pictures of the jerks that hit him. For having the gall, the audacity, the unpatriotic NERVE to want to serve...being a gay man. As if he has the right. LIke to see pictures of his face while they were telling him stuff like that. Not those words, of course. It's never as plain as that.

It's just "too hard to find a place for them". I heard it so many times, too many times.

Too hard to find a place for "them" (as if they wear banners) where they'll be safe... safe from the "normals"... who would see fit to threaten and hurt their fellow soldier...because of how he/she has sex.

I want to see pictures of the faces of the individuals when they learn that, no matter how much a team player and loyal they were, no matter how willing to die for their country or their fellow soldiers, they're still targets. Even for their own side.
