People really believe this. Follow me here.
Take a set of parents who want their children to have a nice Christmas. What do they do? They work hard for it, save, scrimp, maybe work overtime or even pick up a part-time job. The kids are no help, of course. After the parents working all day and come home, the buggers are still running around, making messes, need feeding, need bathing, need homework time. They're weary to the bone, but the look on their kids' faces will be worth it.
Then Christmas comes, all the presents are piled under the tree. The children practically knock down their parents in the rush downstairs on Christmas morning, tear open the paper, look at their exhausted, overworked parents who sacrificed so much and scream . . .
"Thanks, Santa!"
Barack Obama is like the LGBT community's Santa Claus. We do all the work. We apply all the pressure on the administration and Congress. We have to fight with a sizable portion of our own party to even get a compromise that the President says he doesn't even really want right now. We have to sit there while privileged straight people with all their rights are constantly screaming, denigrating, fighting, trolling, stalking, and freaking out on us. People like Dan Choi are chaining themselves to fences and putting their careers on the line. People have spent their entire years battling cowardly politicians for their simple, basic rights.
And when the administration budges the slightest, reluctant, grumbling, hesitant, incomplete bit . . .
"Thanks, Barack Obama!"
All while not making it the slightest bit easy on us, ignoring the absolute hell they've put LGBTers through, and enjoying a shiny new toy they will totally forget about tomorrow, while we get to clean up the mess.
I hate Santa Claus.
