Online ordering is now available for educators interested in obtaining a free copy of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s latest Teaching Tolerance film – Bullied: A Student, a School and a Case that Made History.

Bullied tells the story of Jamie Nabozny, a student who stood up to his anti-gay tormentors and filed a federal lawsuit against his school district. The suit led to a landmark court decision finding that school officials could be held accountable for not stopping anti-gay abuse.

The film and accompanying educational guide offer lessons for both students and educators, showing viewers that anti-gay bullying is wrong. It will help students recognize the harm caused by bullying and help teachers and school administrators understand their responsibility to help stop the harassment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students.

1. I think that is fine and good
but we should also be promoting self-defense. Sometimes a good lesson for school bullies is a good old-fashioned ass whooping.

2. Give me a fucking break.
Stop blaming the victims of bullying for being 'less than.' It's the behavior of THE BULLIES that needs to be changed, not the behavior of the people they pick on.

Your agenda is pure bs.

4. I don't think you have even a beginning of a clue as to how alone
a bully's victim can be made to feel. I literally felt I had to walk a gauntlet every day at school for three years. No amount of physical fighting can work against a crowd. I just wish I had had the courage to sue.

5. I applaud the young man's actions in going to court
It is right to hold negligent publik skool bureaucrats accountable, but I was also adding that we can ALSO prevent bullying by promoting self-defense.

8. That's a lose-lose scenario nowadays.
A couple of decades ago a kid maybe could have done that, it might or might not have stopped the bully, and everyone would carry on as usual.

The rules are different now. An ass whooping - even in self-defense - can get you expelled from public school for a full year. That leaves kids trying to home school in households that may not have the support for it (or even a stay at home parent to supervise), or the victim might have to cough up hundreds or thousands of dollars to try to cover online classes to keep up with their credits.

Once a kid is expelled from a traditional school, they become very high risk for never completing high school at all.

3. I ordered the video for my GSA
I just hope I can watch it without crying in front of them. I know it will be a hard film for me to watch.

6. My wife and I helped sponsor that
Only $100 but unfortunately that's all we could afford at the time. If we could have given $1000 or more we gladly would have. It's a film that needed to be made and a message that needs to get out. We're now awaiting our copy.
