Maggie Gallagher On Ken Mehlman - We respect his personal life, but...
Maggie Gallagher On Ken Mehlman

"We respect Ken Mehlman's right to his personal life. Supporting gay marriage, however, is a very different and very public matter. The fight over same-sex marriage really isn't about Mr. Mehlman's personal life. Marriage, as a public legal status, is a man and a woman for a reason: It is the only civil institution that brings together the two halves of humanity to ensure the children they create have the best opportunity to be raised by their own mother and father. We will fight all attempts to redefine marriage to be something that it is not -- a genderless, adult-centered sexual relationship centered on the alleged rights of adults and not the needs of children.

1. The Two Halves of Humanity????
What a stunningly stupid way to describe men and women.

2. She says:
" Marriage, as a public legal status" as a definition of marriage being a public legal status - meaning religion shouldn't have any bearing on it, since it is a rite of state...

Her religious arguments have NO bearing and do not apply to the arguement at all...not legally...

3. That's the same buzzphrase she uses in practically every speech she gives
It is the only civil institution that brings together the two halves of humanity to ensure the children they create have the best opportunity to be raised by their own mother and father.

Someone actually did a video where they spliced together clips of her saying that phrase at rally after rally, speech after speech. Unfortunately I can't find it at the moment. Suffice it to say it's one of her most overused (and stupid) stock phrases.

4. Reveals how contemptuous she is of the adoption process.
Adopted children seem to be a footnote to her rhetoric. Revolting.

5. She also conveniently ignores
her own situation. You know, women who get knocked up and don't marry the baby daddies but later marry some dude you never see them with in public.

I still think she hates on gay people because that dude wouldn't marry her and she imagines keeping gay people from having rights will somehow make all irresponsible guys marry the women they inseminate.

6. So...
"It is the only civil institution that brings together the two halves of humanity to ensure the children they create have the best opportunity to be raised by their own mother and father"

Heterosexual marriages without children are invalid, I guess. Since they keep prattling on and on about marriage being solely reserved for procreation.
