Ministers ask faithful to help ban gay marriage
About 2,000 socially conservative ministers across Texas will be collecting more than tithes today as they call on their congregations to register to vote so they can be ready to add a ban on gay marriage to the state constitution in the November election.

Texas Restoration Project, which organized the voter-registration drive, says the effort is an attempt to bring morality to government by empowering Christian voters, regardless of party. But critics say the Texas Restoration Project is nothing more than an adjunct of the state Republican Party and Gov. Rick Perry's re-election campaign.

The political consulting firm handling the Texas Restoration Project's logistics is a company that did $3.2 million in business last year with the state GOP and Republican candidates for office. It is headed by the former spokesman for a Republican congressman and the former executive director of the Texas Republican Party.

The Texas Restoration Project is chaired by the Rev. Laurence White of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Houston. White said the project is an effort to restore Bible-based morality in America.

This just sickens me. What a shame that these false "christians" don't understand that tolerance and love are "Bible-based morality."

2. Of course not! Are they queers? And doesn't the bible say its ok...
to beat your wife, sell her into slavery? Wives, the bible suggests, are meerly property. At least in the FundiVangelical Bible, the one where they ignore all that love and equality and generosity bunk. That is some hippie Jesus stuff. Real men hate fags and beat their wives.

3. We should try adding bans on shellfish or mixed-fabric clothing
to the constitution. Because those are in Leviticus too.

5. Old Testament morality is staggeringly immoral
My skin crawls whenever any of these people mention Bible based morality. The fundamentalists base their hatred of GLBT's on a few lines from the old testament and some wildly out of context stuff from Paul. The OT condones all manner of disgusting practices that no one would call moral today like genocide, men having multiple concubines and treating them horribly, sending your rivals off to die to take their wives, and there is much more. Biblical morality is not moral at all.
