Basketball coach fights ‘homosexual lifestyle’
Basketball coach fights ‘homosexual lifestyle’

A basketball coach in Kentucky is dedicating his coaching efforts to fighting the “lesbian lifestyle.” Coach Jaye Collins (left in photo, with Isaiah Thomas) has put together the Lady Legends basketball team to feature some of the top girls high school basketball play who are committed to God and rejecting the gay “lifestyle.” From the team’s Web site:

I started the Lady Legends program with the support of my wife, Kari, in hopes of encouraging young girls to be proud and secure in not being part of the lesbian and homosexual lifestyle which is so prevalent in woman’s/girl’s athletics. Many girls, as early as middle school, are being influenced or “tested”, or converted and convinced that if they play sports, specifically basketball, they must be, should be, or need to be gay.

I believe that we should encourage girls to glorify God and please Jesus Christ in their decision making processes. I know this is not the socially accepted or politically correct perspective, but our goal is H.O.O.P.S…..Helping Others Obtain Personal Salvation.

Thank you and may God bless you and your family as you make him 1st in your life’s endeavors. Matthew 6:33

1. Silly me ..........
I thought sports was about playing a game and having fun
and it mattered not what lifestyle one embraced

2. This is what happens when we put people affiliated with sports on a pedistal,
and look to them as role models.

If this person were an accountant, would anyone care what he thinks or write a story about him?

Of all the professions out there, why is it that people think sports makes one uniquely qualified for role-model status?

(With all due respect to DU sports fans out there.)

4. When I see Chin Soo Choo smash a one base single through the gap
...I get this rush of excitement and live vicariously through him.

When I was a kid, we would take a ball out in the yard and pass it around after watching a football game. Does that explain it?

7. actually one of the big anti gay people
Matt Barber, got his anti gay start by posting an anti gay editorial and being fired by AllState insurance for having done so. I do take your point, but given enough of a publicity machine the right can turn anyone into a circus.

3. Hmmmm
When I had Kurt Warner on my fantasy football team, I used to do a lot of posting about how the Little Baby Jesus was looking down on us and blessing our efforts. Of course I was being ironic. This is just sad.

10. My first thought when I read the OP
I remember reading about how so many parents in the 70's and 80's were concerned about their teenage daughters being on the pro tennis circuit. The Big Bad Lesbians in the locker rooms. So, the girls' male coaches kept an eye on them. Guess what used to happen? Alot.

9. who cares what the religiously insane think?
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 03:03 PM by mike_c
I mean, no one considers most other peoples' delusions to have any particular importance except within their own fantasy worlds. Why should we concern ourselves with topics the religiously insane ramble about?

15. Because...
The religiously insane have this way of worming their way into the good graces of people and making them see life through their deluded eyes. They are a danger to everyone and the spotlight needs to be shone on them constantly.

12. Oh yeah, because forcing those who really are gay to hide it is so much better
My volleyball coach was an evil woman to us - but now I wonder if it was because she was not able to live her life openly.

13. If that was my school district and I had a kid I'd sure complain a lot about him
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 09:02 PM by ShadowLiberal
I do believe a teacher doing something like this falls under the category of 'indoctrination' that the radical right claimed Obama was trying to do to our kids by telling them to work hard and do well in school.

I'd complain like hell if my kid went to his school and try to get other parents to demand he be fired for teaching that kind of hatred and bigotry.
