3M Joins Target In Supporting Anti-Gay Politics
3M Joins Target In Supporting Anti-Gay Politics

Here's wishing that corporate giant 3M would have just stuck to making Post-It Notes and pop-up tape dispensers. Instead, the corporation known for manufacturing a little bit of everything, has decided to follow retail giant Target in giving heaps and heaps of money to support anti-gay politicians.

3M gave a whopping $100,000 to a group in Minnesota known as MN Forward, a political action committee working to elect a Republican State Representative, Tom Emmer, as governor of Minnesota. Emmer is a lightning rod of controversy for positions he has taken demonizing LGBT people, immigrants, those concerned about the environment, and restaurant workers, to name a few.

Emmer's anti-gay comments are particularly egregious. As a politician, Emmer has tried to bar gays and lesbians from raising children, has criticized efforts to deal with anti-gay bullying in high schools (despite the fact that Minnesota is home to a school district that has seen three LGBT students commit suicide this past year), wanted to de-fund HIV/AIDS groups in Minnesota, and has tried to ban same-sex marriage. Perhaps most appalling, Emmer has given money to a religious ministry known as You Can Run But You Cannot Hide, which has called for violence against gays and lesbians and labels all LGBT people pedophiles.

Talk about a 3M Fail. Send a message to the company letting them know that supporting anti-gay candidates like Tom Emmer is not only bad for business, but it's offensive to the millions of LGBT consumers that purchase and use 3M products. http://www.change.org/petitions/view/tell_3m_stop_funding_anti-gay_politics

1. Disgusting. Aside from the anti-gay BS, it is dismaying to see these companies fall for the
right-wing financial snake oil. What good are low taxes if the public infrastructure is crumbling around you and fewer consumers are able to afford your products?

conservative..They started a plant in NJ and that was my first job.

4. We need to get serious about all the places to go to buy alternatives to Target and 3M products.
How many kinds of protests are there?

Marching with signs. (Usually -only temporary)

Not shopping in their store?

Marching legally in front of or near their stores?

Writing to your newpapers and their headquarters, plus your local store management.

Well, 3M is not Target as far as stores.

How many other brands of store carry their products?

How much of their business is about products we use?

How much of their business is about government contracts?

How much is 3M getting away with in their pollution practices?

Do we go after the stores that carry their products? The Office Depots, Staples, Office Max, etc.

Does our Post Office use their products?

Our Government offices? At all levels?

What about the companies that supply 3M? Their advertising agency(ies)? The magazines and tv that carry the ads?

I bet they think they are going to get away with this because of their size?

Minnesota a blue state?

We are seeing typical right wing industry - IN OUR FACE.

Of all people - EMMER. What blatant hate.
