New CDC study results of hiv infections amongst MSM is truly depressing
http://www.cdc.gov/nchhstp/newsroom/ngmHAAD2010PressRelease.html

some excerpts

"study Finds 1 in 5 Gay Men HIV-infected in Major U.S. Cities; Nearly Half Unaware

Other major findings include:

· While MSM of all races and ethnicities were severely affected, black MSM were particularly impacted (28% were infected, compared to 18% of Hispanic MSM and 16% of white MSM).
· Black MSM were less likely than others to be aware of their HIV infection (59% unaware, vs. 46% for Hispanic MSM and 26% for white MSM).
· Young MSM – especially young MSM of color – were far less likely than older men to realize they were HIV-infected. Among those under age 30 who were infected, nearly two-thirds (63%) were unaware of their HIV status"

8. That's fucking BULLSHIT and you know it.
How typical of our community, to quickly shift the blame and bury our heads in the sand when it comes to AIDS and similar problems.

The government has FUCK ALL to do with the incidence of HIV infection, most of which, as this and other studies show, is happening among people of my generation for whom HIV is just another little problem to manage, like meth addiction, steroid abuse and every other plague that is devouring us from the inside out. Quentin Crisp was reviled when he said that AIDS was just a fad; flawed a man as he was, he was right. The only people concerned with HIV today are those that survived the first wave, those that watched their friends and lovers die in their arms.

I've seen Bush blamed for a lot of ridiculous crap but this one takes the cake. One should only need to be told ONCE that fucking without protection can kill you before it becomes the person's responsibility. HIV is not the problem anymore, it's stupidity.

9. There is a lot of stupidity out there, and education saves lives.
Bush & Co. neglected or actively defunded prevention programs. It's a good investment to try and save young people from their own stupidity. It gives them a chance to grow up and get wiser.

10. while i dont think hiv is a bush problem, people dont protect what they dont value
and growing up in homophobic environments make young gay men really not value their lives.

everyone invested in creating and maintaining a homophobic culture is to blame

5. Anyone know how well they're doing in preventing unnecessary exposures in bathhouses?
I know this was a major problem during the Castro years, and follow-ups in the bathhouses of South beach ten years ago showed that there was a backslide.

6. most bathhouses have been closed since the 80's in nyc.
this has a lot more to do with homophobia and young teens not knowing/caring about sex ed.
