Homophobic hate messages left on memorial page for bullied gay teen who committed suicide

GREENSBURG, Ind. -- Homophobic hate messages were left Thursday on a memorial page set up for Billy Lucas, a Greensburg High School student who killed himself last week after being mercilessly bullied, friends said.

Numerous images were uploaded to a Facebook group, giving visitors a taste of the kind of hate Lucas endured, friends said.

The messages chided the teen about defending himself and made attacks on his presumed sexuality, 6News' Joanna Massee reported.

Lucas was found hanged in a barn at his grandmother's house last week. Some of the messages attempted to make light of the way Lucas died.

I am intending to upload an It gets better video to youtube when I have time to do so well. In the meantime I am just so sick of reading about kids killing themselves due to this bullying. It is hard not to see our movement as a failure as long as this is happening so often.

How can people be so cruel? How can they stand to live with themselves for one single minute?

Poor Billy. I feel absolutely sick thinking of how he suffered. I really hope the bullies are haunted by grief for the rest of their days once they realize what they did. It may take a while, but I think they probably will... maybe not even until they become parents, but unless they're literally sociopathic they will someday regret their behavior. In the meantime, I hope their pathetic lives are sad and miserable and marked by failure at every turn.

9. Those responsible are truly horrible human beings.

This story is so tragic already, and to think his family and the people who loved him can't even have peace after his death, that these people have to deface a site set up as a memorial, is so sickening and sad my mind can't begin to wrap around it.
