Teacher Reassigned For Coming Out
When a fourth grader asked 23-year-old Seth Stambaugh why he was not married, Stambaugh said it was because it was illegal for him to marry another man. The parent of a student who overheard the conversation complained, according to The Oregonian, causing Stambaugh's advisers at Lewis & Clark College to reassign him to another school.

This is what happens when you have no protection from irrational people, whether it's from a parent who thinks of the children, an administrator attempting to turn a school around, or a group believing homosexuality is a lifestyle.

We used to be a party who gave a voice to the voiceless. Now we're a party just trying to survive the next election.

1. In addition to the obvious homophobia, I am also annoyed by one other thing
Personnel and policy decisions are made because one parent complains. This used to drive me up the wall when I was in school.

One parent.

4. Back in the late 90s, at my daughter's high school ...
The longtime head librarian, a well loved middle-aged gentleman at the school, came back from winter break ... as a full-fledged woman. He'd undergone a sex-change operation, I believe with the administration's knowledge. The kids barely noticed, and certainly didn't care. Quite a number of parents did, and complained.

The librarian was not fired or moved, at least during the time we were there.

So every district and school administration is different.

Just to let you know, GLBT discrimination doesn't exist everywhere.

2. We would survive EVERY election if dems would BE what
People expect them to be - the Party of the Left.

Everything else are lies that centrists and rightists tell.

3. WTF?
Maureen Wheeler, a spokeswoman for the Beaverton School District, said the decision was not discriminatory but based on the Stambaugh's "professional judgment and age appropriateness." She added that the school district enforces its antidiscrimination policy and trains its faculty and staff on LGBT issues.

So, is it equally inappropriate for a straight, married teacher to tell students that they're married to someone of the opposite sex?

8. Right. I'll just bet that No straigth male teacher is allowed to say
that he has a wife. Right!

I'll just bet that no straight woman working there is allowed to mention about her husband!

But this guy mentions not having a husband, and that's "not age appropriate?" What total fucking bullshit rationalization!

:wtf:

5. Its unfortunately
teaching is becoming more about the politics, than about the teaching. My mother was moved schools because she made the mistake of saying something positive about a former principal to the superintended, who is the most corrupt, arrogant person I have ever met.

6. The geniuses who want to ditch teacher tenure....
... should be happy.

It stands to reason that GLBT teachers are going to be among the first to be purged when Obama-cation goes into high gear.

Does he care? Think about it. DADT. Marriage equality. ENDA.

His own kids in private school.

You tell me: does he care?

7. I don't think Obama cares one iota about his LGBT supporters.
It's downright insulting that he is to the right of many Rethuglicans on LGBT issues.

9. Didn't you hear? He says he's a "fierce advocate" for the LGBTQ community.
And since words seem speak louder than actions with his administration, no one could hope for better.
