Do celebrities ever deserve to be outed?
Like if they participate in a scene in a movie whose new trailer perpetuates the use of the word "gay" as a pejorative?

If we hold politicians accountable, why not movie stars?

You can see the trailer at the link.

1. I feel if someone wants to be "outed", they'll do it themselves.

5. Politicians (presumably) control their own message
Actors (most of them) have no part in the scripting or marketing of films they appear in.

And whawhawha Vince Vaughn is closeted? I've never heard that before!

6. Actors can choose their roles
no one forces them to take a part.

And who says I'm referring to Vince Vaughn.

7. No. Acting is just that, acting.
Though it is very disappointing to see that clip. Besides, I think Queen Latifah is more of an "open" secret. The only time I would see an issue is if an actor defended the wording in such a way as to make it "no big deal" or, worse, legitimized it.

8. I'm disappointed in Ron Howard....
You'd think a director of his caliber could be less asshole-like.

And on top of that, the movie doesn't even look funny.

Oh wait, anyone who's paying attention know they've been outed.

The only individuals I reluctantly favor outing are politicians who (1) support anti-gay legislation and (2) are practicing homosexuals (physically or emotionally).

12. They said they were 'bewildered' by the controversy...
"Although executives at Universal Studios claimed to be bewildered by the controversy - alleging that they showed it to gay rights groups in advance – they agreed to alter the trailer, the report said."

Sorry, gay rights groups don't speak for everyone.

14. I found that a little odd myself.
Even without unnamed "gay rights" groups, it isn't rocket science to see why this trailer was offensive.

16. Absolutely
If I'm a closeted public figure who makes money off of something that, in part, promotes homophobia and helps further the climate of hate and violence that endangers LGBT youth.
