The guy sent it in a screwy HTML format.

Does anyone want to "clean it up?"

and frankly, I gotta figure if you're not interested in taking the time to make it readable, it can't be very important.

4. Thanks for translating, guys. I'm thinking of a counter-event...

By the 1920’s, Berlin had become known as a homosexual eden, where gay men and lesbians lived relatively open lives amidst an exciting subculture of artists and intellectuals. With the coming to power of the Nazis, all this changed. Between 1933 and 1945 100,000 men were arrested for homosexuality under Paragraph 175, the sodomy provision of the German penal code dating back to 1871. Some were imprisoned, others were sent to concentration camps. Of the latter, only about 4,000 survived. Today, fewer than ten of these men are known to be living. Five of them have now come forward to tell their stories for the first time in this powerful new film.

The Nazi persecution of homosexuals may be the last untold story of the Third Reich. Paragraph 175 fills a crucial gap in the historical record, and reveals the lasting consequences of this hidden chapter of 20th century history, as told through personal stories of men and women who lived through it: the half Jewish gay resistance fighter who spent the war helping refugees in Berlin; the Jewish lesbian who escaped to England with the help of a woman she had a crush on; the German Christian photographer who was arrested and imprisoned for homosexuality, then joined the army on his release because he “wanted to be with men”; the French Alsatian teenager who watched as his lover was tortured and murdered in the camps. These are stories of survivors -- sometimes bitter, but just as often filled with irony and humor; tortured by their memories, yet infused with a powerful will to endure. Their moving testimonies, rendered with evocative images of their lives and times, tell a haunting, compelling story of human resilience in the face of unspeakable cruelty. Intimate in its portrayals, sweeping in its implications, Paragraph 175 raises provocative questions about memory, history, and identity.

11. Paragraph 175: Thanks for this info about this film.
With such stories from his fellow holocaust survivors, how could he turn on 100,000 victims of Hitler?

A book, "Damned Strong Love" tells the true story of a Polish youth who fell in love with a German soldier. We learn how the Germans took houses from Polish people and gave them to Germans. The boy wrote a letter to the soldier which led to the boy's arrest. He never heard form the soldier again.

After the fall of the communism many people came forward to tell the stories of their suffering during the war and under communism. The play, "I am my own wife" is another such story which is about a transvestite. (It's a rather odd story, but well told.)

Its sad that homophobia is an evil that seems to have transcended the fall of other great evils. Christianity commands people to love their neighbors. Perhaps the false christianity of wars and hate will soon follow their evil comrades.

5. How sad that a concentration camp survivor ...
... would side with the bigots of the religious reich.

I'm thinking that he must have some "issues" if he's willing to side with a bunch that no doubt has as many "colorful" names for Jews as they do for gays. Of course they'll only use them behind his back until they are through using him for propaganda.

9. The guy from Article 8 and his buddy Ira Korff are both Jewish
I've dealt with bigots from all across the religious spectrum, and while 85% of Jews are in favor of gay rights, those few Jews that aren't are often among the worst.

Take for example, Rabbi Daniel Lapin of Toward Tradition. He hates gay people and he hates recycling!

6. Here's some more info on the Holocaust survivor ...
He testified before Congress in favor of "flag protection"

"Perhaps only those who have had their humanity brutally torn from them as I did can fully appreciate this great country and what its flag represents. Yet every American, out of deference for the sacrifices that purchased and maintain their freedom should revere and honor our flag."

http://www.massnews.com/past_issues/other/4_Apr/aprhl2.htm

<gag!> It's a shame that not all those "who have had their humanity brutally torn from them" regain their humanity to recognize they are siding with the same type of folks who loaded them into concentration camps a few decades ago.

Oh and then there's this gem:

Holocaust Survivor: Molested by Homosexual Guards
Founder of Boston Holocaust Museum spent five years in Nazi camps
Massachusetts News

It’s commonly accepted that Hitler targeted homosexuals for extermination — just as he did the Jews.

"Not so," says Stephan Ross, the Newton resident who is the founder of the Holocaust Museum in Boston.

And he should know. Ross was there. He lived, and almost died, in Nazi prison camps from the age of 9 to 14.

And while the abuse of the Nazis took many forms, he says he was sexually molested more than once by homosexual Nazi prison guards. He knew it was also going on with other prisoners, "although I didn’t go looking for it."

http://www.massnews.com/past_issues/other/4_Apr/aprhol.htm

(well THAT explains a lot!)

Leave it to the whackjobs of the religious reich to come up with a Jewish Holocaust denier!

7. THAT explains SO MUCH! He survived by being a "comfort boy"!
He kept himself alive by eating Nazi cock.

Now, he is so repulsed by the memory, that he's decided the only way he can find peace with himself is to bash gay people.

I almost feel sorry for him.

15. Fvcking convenient? Forget the pink triangles gays wore?
Did he never hear or read the Nazi ranting against gays?

Their (closeted at that) purges of gays in Nazi society?

Did you ever take a close look at Hermann emphasis on "Her"mann Goering in his blouses, jodhpurs, and his finger wave hair do's? A picture of a self loathing denier.

Beyond that I am shocked to hear of such an association with holocaust survivors and any other group who seeks to suppress human rights.

10. He's an idiot.
What happened to him had nothing to do with homosexuality. It had everything to do with humiliation and domination. Apparently, it worked and now he just feeds the cycle of hate - the same cycle that caused Hitler to rise to power. He doesn't even see it. Idiot.

When will people understand that being gay has nothing to do with who you sleep with, but rather who you want to be in a RELATIONSHIP with? Gay people can sleep with the opposite sex and straight people can sleep with the same sex, that doesn't make them straight, gay or bi.

12. BY LEONARD PITTS JR.: Anti-gay laws are inhumane
I'm going to cross-post this in its own thread

BY LEONARD PITTS JR.: Anti-gay laws are inhumane
May 4, 2005
BY LEONARD PITTS JR.

Gay Holocaust?

That was the subject line of an e-mail I received last week from "Chris," a lawyer in a red state. He wanted to know if anybody else sees a similarity between the beginning of the Holocaust -- the nibbling away of rights and personhood that ultimately led to the attempted extermination of a people -- and what is happening to gay people in the United States.

He knows it's far-fetched. "But," he says, speaking of the conservative element that is pushing hardest against gay rights, "we are not dealing with normal people here."

Chris concedes that there are differences between the plights of Jews and gays. "But they also have this in common -- at one time in history, that time being the present for gays, they were the object of official government-sponsored hatred couched in the name of religion or morals."

<snip>

Ours is a stable and prosperous democracy, so no, I don't predict train cars full of gays rolling toward death factories. Still, the mindset of aggrieved righteousness that allowed those trains to roll is not dissimilar from that which would ban books about gay people from public school libraries.

Maybe your instinct is to find the comparison unthinkable. Nobody is interning gays or mass murdering them. But ask yourself: How many would if they could?
