Think about it.

The sophomoric "Proposition H8" meme contributed to the victory of Proposition 8 by alienating people who were on the fence. You can't win a close campaign with that kind of amateurish tactic.

I personally know two people who changed their position on Prop. 8 from a weak No on libertarian grounds, to a strong Yes because someone vandalized businesses in their neighborhood by tearing down Yes on 8 materials, spray-painting "No on H8!" on buildings, and breaking a few windows.

One of the businesses they vandalized was a bike shop that's very popular in the area. A few thoughtless acts are sometimes all that's needed to lose an important battle.

You may not be able to win over a bigot, but calling someone a bigot serves only to reinforce their prejudice.

There does exist a moveable middle, but I can guarantee you this video is not addressing them.

A shift of just 2% of the voters in California would have defeated Proposition 8. The margin is that close in a lot of places.

I hate seeing a good cause torpedoed by a bunch of amateurs at the helm.

You give way too much power to this video if you think it will somehow be the deciding factor in how people will feel about civil marriage equality in CA.

Because the issue is too important to risk alienating a single voter.

I'm not here trying to convince you either way, but I wouldn't give too much legitimacy to a random internet video making the rounds years before a referendum to repeal Prop 8 has even gathered enough (any?) signatures, while a legal case has been winding its way through the courts.

But again, the groundwork being executed by The Task Force is significant, since more people can relate to face to face contact by LGBTQ Californians, and will probably remember those conversation if a vote ever comes up again, rather than some anachronistic web video.
