Obama allowed hospital visitation and other GLBT stuff. Any gay person not supporting him is off their rocker because the alternative is much worse. In fact Obama has already made good progress but there is only so much he can do.

if LBJ had the same attitude. Fortunately for people who believe in equality, he didn't.

12. Actually, LBJ did have the same attitude. |
|
The Civil Rights Act originally contained voting rights as well. But LBJ knew he couldn't get it passed that way, so he stripped voting rights out and passed what he could, then went back for the rest later.

3. While it is nice he made this, I wonder if it is a PR stunt since LGBT rights are dead until 2013 |
|
The DADT repeal won't be passed by the lame duck Congress and it will go nowhere with a Republican House. ENDA and the DOMA repeal are also dead. Unless the Supreme Court rules favorably on repealing DADT or the Massachusetts DOMA case in 2012, Obama will have brought very little change or very few kept promises for LGBT Americans.

He made some pretty speeches and sounded very sincere. Aren't you also forgetting that he has gay and trans appointees?
You must just want a pony.

it sounds like to a 13 year old kid when the President of the United States says that he or she can never get married, never enjoy the life their parents and straight friends have? Does he think that would make someone despair?
Things will get better? It won't get better as long as bigots believe that marriage is between one man and one woman, as Obama does.

He's not making it better in any real sense for these kids who are committing suicide because of their "life style choice" (thanks Valerie Jarrett). He has made some changes around the margin that make it marginally better, but nothing major has actually happened on his watch to improve things.
NOTHING.

9. Thank you, Mr. President. |
|
Now Mr. President, say to all those Gay kids that are being bullied that they were born Gay and they are just as natural and legitimate as you are. And then tell them, Mr. President, that you support their legal right to marry the person they love, and that you unequivocally support their right to serve in the American military WITHOUT PREJUDICE and that you will truly be a fierce advocate to ensure that all LGBTQ persons are afforded the SAME legal rights and protections as every other citizen. If you truly want to stop gay kids from killing themselves, this is what you need to say, and most importantly, this is what you need to do.
