Dan Savage's Reaction To President Obama's "It Gets Better" Video

One of the readers of Joe.My.God's blog said:

Of course the administration's position on DOMA, DADT, and gay marriage contributes to the toxic atmosphere that gives rise to bullying of LGBTQ youth! To suggest otherwise is preposterous.

Obama can't have it both ways. He can't say that "God is in the mix" and therefore he's against gay people being allowed to get married and then pretend that he is not perpetuating negative attitudes toward gay people. Please. --Kat

1. Dan is spot on, as usual. Obama's legal and "moral" positions on these issues lead to the death ...
of members of the LGBT community, gay youth in particular.

3. Absolutely right!
You can't be against our rights, and you can't be creating the environment where we can be bullied, and then claim that you oppose us being bullied.

We can be bullied when we want to see our loved ones in the hospital, because our relationships aren't equal. He opposes making our relationships equal. He only wants to allow hospital visitation as a privilege for a few, not a right for all.

We can be bullied out of the military, and despite saying that he wants to change this, he's working to preserve this system of bullying.

We can be bullied financially whenever we want health insurance for our partners, and again, he's in favor of keeping our relationships separate and unequal.

As long as he supports keeping our us separate from straight people, with different rules from straight people, and with a stigma for being different from straight people, then he's supporting the bullying, no matter what pretty words he says to the contrary.

Actions speak louder than the pretty words, Obama.

8. Actions speak louder than words?
Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure it's the other way around--why else would people point to Obama speaking out against DOMA and DADT as far more meaningful than his fighting to keep them on the books?

6. Perfect. I was so looking for a word for Obama's message. "Symbolic."
But, that is about it. Words do matter, but actions, they speak MUCH LOUDER than words!
