HuffPo: Social Conservative Robocall Drops 'Homosexual' Reference Ten Times In Attacking Democrat
Edited on Tue Oct-26-10 12:32 AM by UrbScotty
An otherwise obscure statehouse race in Midland County, Michigan, may be home to the most remarkable robocall of the election cycle -- put up by a social conservative group, it drops the word "homosexual" ten times.

Over the weekend, Gary Glenn, the chairman of the Campaign for Michigan Families, released a robocall attacking the Democratic candidate in the race, Toni Sessoms, as a stooge for the "homosexual activist agenda." Sessoms is openly gay. But if a voter didn't know that, they certainly got the point after getting Glenn's call.

4. Being center of attention isn't so fun when its dodgeball.
Or dodge bullet. Or when the so called friends are standing in the outer ring yelling "I'm just standing here to look good I'm not going to throw the ball at you. Okay I had to throw the ball at you so they wouldn't know I'm really on your side. Okay I had to throw it HARD because they were looking. Okay I had to laugh with everyone else, but then I followed it up with a HEY THAT'S NOT COOL. Then I had to chuck the ball at you even harder to keep up the illusion."

We're play 33-dimensional dodge ball here.

2. K&R thank you for this info, UrbScotty. wouldn't it be great to see
it backfire?

a lot of this country says "get over it" about "homosexuality," these days.

thanks again!

3. I know Toni personally, and I know the district to an extent.

I'll tell you, Toni could definitely win this thing!

Toni's a very smart woman - dedicated, involved in the community. She is very well respected. And she is one of the nicest people I have met in some time!

Bush barely won the district. Obama and Granholm both carried it.

The current rep (a Republican) is term-limited after serving six years. His predecessor for the previous six years was his wife. Both have been very popular, but the current rep has never gotten more than 58% of the vote. And unlike previous Democrats to run there, Toni is running a solid ground game.

Central Michigan University is in the district. So hopefully the students will help push Toni over the top. The College Dems at CMU are doing a great job up there.

But now with this robocall, I am hopeful there will be enough of a backlash to help her win not just by a few votes, but by a landslide.

Oh, and it gets better: If elected, Toni would be the first Democrat ever to represent Mount Pleasant. Ever!

6. that is very exciting, UrbScotty! and what a joy to see it turn to a
landslide - actually caused by those who believe that "homosexual" is so horribly awful that it would, must!, cost an election. backfire of the highest order! :)

i love Michigan! countless enlightened people there! you deserve to see that happen!!

peace and solidarity!

7. of course, the cultural knives come our in the run up to the campaign
Do you remember the Kerry Campaign. In WV they put out
flyers all over the State which read: John Kerry will take
away your Bibles and permit Men Marry Men.

This is boiler plate in last few days before elections.

In Ohio, the Amish came horse and buggies fly to save
civilization, when we had a referendum type question
regarding Gays on the ballot. The GOP had gone into
the communities and convinced them.

You never see much open advertizing, it is done
under the radar so to speak. God Guns and Gays.

It happens every election. I think it stirs emotions
and used to get out the GOP vote.
