First, I'm shocked at the way LGBT persons are treated on this supposedly "progressive" website. It's very telling about LGBT support in the overall Democrat community.
When I see gay people defending their rights here and criticizing bigoted Democrats, the other side's only response seems to be: "It's almost like you gays care about equality more than you do electing __________."
Yes. Equality is more important than Obama or Democrats. Why is this so surprising?
I'm not gay; however, I'm not free as long as any of my fellow Americans is not free. I have a gay brother, cousin, and many gay friends and acquanitances, but I don't care about gay rights because it's a "pet issue." I care about gay rights because it is the our generation's fight for full equality in our culture.
I see DU members who criticize gays for voicing their dissent against bigoted Democrats just like conservatives who adopt the "I've got mine, fuck everyone else" attitude. Straight DU members who try to equivocate about Democrats and gay issues, or tell gays to vote for bigots "for the greater good" just don't care about equality. Nothing else is more important.

9. Yes, we care more about equality than any candidate. |
|
And if they don't get that, obviously they don't care about equality all that much. :(
But what do we know. We're just single issue voters. We just want a pony.

11. Equality is paramount. Democrats are a tool to get it. But there's only one other tool in the box. |
