Poll: Arizona Anti-Gay Amendment Likely To Fail
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/09/092805azPoll.htm

A new poll shows that nearly two-thirds of likely voters would reject amending the Arizona constitution to ban same-sex marriage and civil unions.

The statewide poll, by KAET-TV, the Phoenix area PBS affiliate, and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University was conducted last week. It shows that of 390 registered voters only 33 percent would vote for the proposed amendment, while 60 percent would oppose it. Seven percent of the voters who were surveyed were undecided.

The poll indicates the sharp drop in support is likely the result of an education effort of voters by LGBT rights groups in the state.

1. 390 is not a large sample
I'm hopeful that the poll is correct, but I remember similar polls in Kansas and Missouri before marriage votes that showed close margins ... but 70 percent (or more) of voters ending up supporting a gay marriage ban.

Polling on controversial issues tends to be off somewhat because poll respondents don't want to be viewed as bigots, but the only "real" poll is the one when there are alone in the voting booth.

Well, I hope this poll reads true. However, my better sense is that the respondent pool is too small for an objective result.

As for the contents of this state constitutional amendment, it's a killer. If this newspaper article's summation is correct then the amendment, if passed, would successfully kill relevant Arizona state (family law) case law and all its progressiveness as well as chuck kerosene on statutory advances, together with voluntary private and public job sector advances across the board. WTF Neanderthal hateful people drafted this horrific amendment?

.
