2. I've decided that my forays into GD are mostly useless |

and wind up getting me frustrated and angry.
The bile that "democrats" are allowed to spew in DU is amazing. There's so much hate.

I don't agree that heteros shouldn't be allowed to "spew" idiocy re. glbts on DU. ( I know you didn't specifically advocate that but you seemed to agree w. another poster who did.).
IMO, they should be allowed to spew idiocy and we should be allowed to kick their ass about it. I call that "education."
The problem with more posting rules... or even more vigorous implementation of existing posting rules ... is twofold:
1. It drives the homophobia underground where we can't get at it.
2. The same rules are going to be disproportionately used against glbters. Example: a single thread in 2009 got 12 glbters tombstoned in 2009 for "educating" hetero DUers about glbters... albeit in I'm sure the education took on a most impassioned tone. Point: everyone of the 12 I'm sure violated some DU posting "rule" or "guideline". This is just a fact of life. We're a minority. Systems of rules invariably work to our disadvantage. This, alas, will always be true.
Solution: get rid of.... or severely curtail posting rules.
I said two-fold, but thirdly: glbters are not infallible and we do not have a monopoly on virtue or intelligence. I for one started a thread recently that was locked recently by a lesbian who thought I was "promoting hate speech." I had quoted some homophobic comments from another site and she couldn't get that they were *quotes*, that they were being used as a starting off point for grown-ups to discuss and analyze.
So, we have our share. Re. rules: be careful what you ask for ( i.e. more restrictive posting policies.) You just might get 'em.
Bad news for us if you do.
