Carrie Fisher outs a top Celebrity Scientologist in the Advocate interview
Scientology was Pro-Prop 8 here in San Diego and has had a very bazar history in regards to LGBT persons (Hubards son killed himself and is widely believed it was because he was gay). It would be great if someone in the organization came out and made a difference.

(Advocate): In the September 2009 issue of Out, you participated in its monthly Can I Be Blunt? column by sharing 10 things that gay men should know about straight women. One of those things was, “We don’t really care that John Travolta is gay.” I know you and Travolta go way back, so let’s get really blunt here: Does his legal team have any business demanding Gawker remove a recent post suggesting that he’s given blow jobs?

(Carrie Fisher): Wow! I mean, my feeling about John has always been that we know and we don’t care. Look, I’m sorry that he’s uncomfortable with it, and that’s all I can say. It only draws more attention to it when you make that kind of legal fuss. Just leave it be.

3. True or not does not matter to me...
Mr. Travolta has, to my knowledge, done nothing against the gay community in general and should not be 'outed'. He is as entitled to his privacy as any citizen should expect to be.

If anyone knows of instances where he stands against the gay community I will rethink my position, but for the moment I stand by it.

4. He did star in that horrible film about the motorcyle gang
which had anti gay jokes but that is all I know of.

5. If he has given money to Scientology and Scientology used its resources ...
to help pass Prop 8, then he has done something against the gay community and deserves to be outed.

7. I disagree...
By that logic nearly every person who donates money to places like Salvation Army, Catholic church, etc which continually discriminates against gays and lesbians should be outed. If he gave money to the organization with the express reason of harming gays and lesbians then I would support outing him.

Also, there is no evidence to prove the allegation. There is no rent boy or anything else. It's just a 'we thought it was an open secret' kind of thing. That would be like someone telling people I'm a closet heterosexual but only because they'd heard it.

10. Yep...Those who contribute to organizations which actively fight against us ...
are fair game to be outed.

11. Maybe people should not donate money to groups that use their money to oppress minorities.
It is not that hard to not voluntarily send money to bigots. Just keep your checkbook in your wallet.

6. I Have to Agree...
Travolta has given large sums to Scientology which has back anti-gay initiatives/propositions and thus I believe he can and should be outed. Scientology is an anti-gay religion (which is its right, I suppose), but it does not have the right to push homohatred in the secular arena and any GLBT person who gives money to it deserves to be outed.

8. Then you would have to be willing to out a member of any religion
While Mr. Travolta has likely given more money than the average person, most religions are gay hating and therefore anyone who donates should be outed.

I think there is a big difference between giving money to an organization that used a portion of its vast wealth to discriminate and being a politician who does the deed with a guy but passes laws against gay people.

I guess it really depends on how far we are willing to go to out people. I'm not a big fan unless the person is actively acting against gays and lesbians.

Really... is being gay the "kiss of death" anymore in Hollywood?
