Yes, Maureen Dowd, We've Already Had a Gay President: James Buchanan
“Maureen Dowd, in her December 19th column ( http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/19/opinion/19dowd.html?_r=1&hp ), muses on the possibility of a gay Commander in Chief in the wake of the passage of the repeal of DADT. In Dowd's commentary, Congressman Barnie Frank points out that we've already had a gay president: James Buchanan. BuzzFlash blogger Harvey Wasserman provides the details.”

“As "conservatives" scream and yell about gays in the military, they might remember that in all likelihood we have already had a gay Commander-in-Chief.”

“With no Moral Majority or Bible thumping fundamentalists to plague them, the King-Buchanan liaison was generally embraced as a political and personal fact of life in a nation consumed with real issues of life and death, freedom and slavery.”

1. And maybe Abe Lincoln
And maybe GWB. After all, was there any other reason for Jeff Gannon to spend the night at the White House?

10. The Lincoln speculation is interesting and....
... not w/o foundation.

I guess no one really cares much about GWB's sexuality.

Speculation ( of any variety) about Lincoln is interesting 'cause *Lincoln* is interesting.

GWB doesn't invite or excite the same sort of curiosity. For obvious reasons. ( e.g. Who cares?, for one.)

15. Even THAT wouldn't make him interesting.
Besides... is there anyone on the planet who DOESN'T know he's a hypocrite?
