GOP official: Burr's 'don't ask' vote opens military to 'sexual predators'
By April Bethea | The Charlotte Observer
Posted on Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Some county commissioners are upset with fellow Republican and U.S. Sen. Richard Burr's vote to repeal a Pentagon ban on gays serving openly in the military.

The harshest remarks came from commissioner Bill James, who said he suspects Burr will pay a price for his vote. He said he won't support the senator in future elections.

"I think there are a lot of things that people of all political stripes tolerate from their politicians," James said. "But endorsing immorality and allowing military recruits to be preyed on by homosexuals is not one that I will tolerate."

James' comments referring to homosexuals as "sexual predators" drew quick criticism this week. Some commissioners have received e-mails asking them to censure James, and some say they may speak against James at next week's meeting.

"When are we going to stand up and say that this type of hate speech is not acceptable?" said Richard Thomas, chair of the Mecklenburg Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender Political Action Committee.

unhappycamper comment: Bigotry is alive and well in North Carolina. :(

1. I assume Mr. James is on the record demanding protection for females serving in Iraq & Afghanistan
from the sexual predators already in our troops who rape so many of them?

3. Predators
That's what I was going to ask. Heterosexual men seem to view their behavior as a right. I bet more women are abused by men in the military than same sex abuse.

4. County commissioner, as in pudknocker from podunk?
This pipsqueak seems to think time froze on June 27, 1969. I trust the world is going to slap him with a pretty serious lesson on the topic of "The times, they are a-changin'."

6. The Old Regulations Were Useful Tools For Sexual Bullies
Bill James is either unaware or unwilling to acknowledge just how useful the old regulations were for sexual bullying. I recall reading a fair number of news articles describing how lesbians serving in the military were pressured by male servicemen for sexual favors in exchange for NOT being accused of homosexual conduct.

I shouldn't be surprised if James is still living in that neo-Confederate fantasy-land where male soldiers (Especially from the South!) would NEVAH act in such a fashion with a lady. If the thought does cross his mind, he might spill his mint juleps.

:sarcasm:

:patriot:
