Gay protest greets Navy recruiters
Military recruiters cut short their visit to Stanford Law School on Monday after no prospective job candidates showed up for interviews -- only noisy protesters of the military's ``don't ask, don't tell'' policy for gays and lesbians.

``It was Mission Nothing Accomplished,'' said John Polito, 30, a gay law student who helped organize the afternoon protest rally and march.

``We're not anti-military. We're opposed to the policy that excludes gays,'' he said.

Stanford Law School does not permit recruiters on campus who discriminate. Like many other law schools, it contends that the Pentagon's policy violates its guidelines on non-discrimination.

1. IN THE NAVY

Where can you find pleasure
Search the world for treasure
Learn science technology
Where can you begin to make your dreams all come true
On the land or on the sea
Where can you learn to fly
Play in sports or skin dive
Study oceanography
Sign up for the big band
Or sit in the grandstand
When your team and others meet

In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on now, people, make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can't you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come on, protect the motherland
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on people, and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)

They want you, they want you
They want you as a new recruit

If you like adventure
Don't you wait to enter
The recruiting office fast
Don't you hesitate
There is no need to wait
They're signing up new seamen fast
Maybe you are too young
To join up today
But don't you worry 'bout a thing
For I'm sure there will be
Always a good navy
Protecting the land and sea

In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on now people, make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can't you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come on, protect the motherland
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on people, and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)

They want you, they want you
They want you as a new recruit

Who me?

They want you, they want you
They want you as a new recruit

But, but, but I'm afraid of water.
Hey, hey look
Man, I get seasick even watchin' it on TV!

They want you, they want you in the navy

Oh my goodness.
What am I gonna do in a submarine?

They want you, they want you in the navy

VILLAGE PEOPLE

2. Don't Ask, Don't Tell
So the protestors don't like the "don't ask, don't tell" policy? What exactly do they want, a return to the total exclusion of gays in the military? It was a big leap for the military to go to don't ask, don't tell. Even though I would like to see it, they are dreaming if they think a total relaxation of the policy against gays in the military is going to happen anytime soon no matter what party is in office.

3. Are you seriously asking that?
Let me explain why Exclusion of gays in the military and don't ask, don't tell is bad:

During wartime, gays are kept in the military. During peace time witch hunts occur that force soldiers into a dishonorable discharge so the military can lean down.

The don't ask, don't tell policy isn't just about asking and talking--if you are caught doing anything homosexual--say having a partner, going to a bar, etc it is the equivilant of TELLING and you are kicked out.

While all the heterosexuals are encouraged (or at least not discouraged) to go out drink, pay prostitutes, pick up strangers, my friends in a loving, committed relationship are completely silent about their lives for fear of the discharge coming.

What gays want exactly is not to be demeaned, demoralized, terrorized and excluded for being in a relationship with someone of the same sex. If the military doesn't want to do that, then stop showing up in colleges and states that outlaw discriminatory practices (such as California, Mass, etc).

4. No, the protestors want gays and lesbians to serve openly...
in the United States military. Just like...Britain. Just like...Canada. And just like...drum roll, please...Israel. Yes, Israel allows openly gay men and lesbians to serve...again openly...in their military. That alone makes this whole, idiotic idea of "unit cohesion"...which, basically, is nothing more than than the "fear" of some poor, sexually confused heterosexual man imagining some gay guy looking at them in the shower...which, it seems to me, is an issue with that straight guy...rather pointless and stupid.

The protestors are against "DADT" because it's been a virtual witchhunt since it was implemented in 1993. It was a bad compromise then and has been a colossal failure ever since.

The United States military has had gay men and women serving in the United States military for decades. And it's about damn time they are treated with respect and allowed to serve their country openly. Period.
