Review: "Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride" Tries to Go Behind the Glitter
What's the point of gay pride? Is it a protest march? A victory celebration?

Not surprisingly, what "pride" is often depends on where it's being celebrated.

That's the point of an interesting new documentary, Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride, now making the festival circuit.

The film follows a single person, Ken Coolen, Pride Director of the Vancouver (British Columbia) Pride Society. In the nine months before the date of his own city's celebration, Coolen educates himself on the event by traveling the world and seeing how pride is celebrated (or not) in other countries.
