Catholic Group: SCOTUS Rejection Of DC Marriage Suit Is A Human Tragedy

Just in from Catholics For The Common Good:

"It is shocking that the U.S. Supreme Court did not accept the appeal of District of Columbia citizens who were deprived of their right to vote on the definition of marriage. The Court's decision effectively upheld the finding of the Washington Human Rights Commission that it would be discriminatory to even give citizens a choice to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. The consequences of changing the definition of marriage have broad ramifications for how the value of marriage to children and society is perceived and will affect decisions people make about marriage in their own lives. Already, 41% of children born today are deprived of a mother and father who have first chosen to make themselves irreplaceable to each through marriage. This is a human tragedy and a violation of the rights of the child."

2. "...the appeal of District of Columbia citizens..."
So why was I under the impression that that preacher and congregation who led the suit from MD were from MD, and not DC?

At least the Mormons kept their noses out of it this time.

3. I'm not interested in anything the Catholic church says
They are no authority on marriage, children, or any kind of relationships. Their celebrant priests are strange. Nuns are almost extinct. And they represent silly 2000 year old dogma that has no place in current society.

4. Ummmm....
The consequences of changing the definition of marriage have broad ramifications for how the value of marriage to children and society is perceived

...."the value of marriage to children".......Huh? They wanna marry children?

I am a strongly religious woman and I have to say - c'mon, people.....I don't see a thing in the DC law or the SCOTUS decision not to hear your appeal that stops your own ability to teach your own children what you think is proper for them.

Of the 41% of children "deprived of a mother and father who have first chosen to make themselves irreplaceable to each through marriage" I assume that includes mostly hetero couples who choose not to marry, or who are divorced. Did your appeal include banning those two scenarios as well? I doubt it. Married homosexual couples are indeed making themselves "irreplaceable to their children by marriage", are they not?

Why not start focusing on your own families, and leave everybody else's families to them?

5. Oh My.....

Very Bad Choice Of Words To Use For An Attack On The GLBTQI Community From This Group....

Most groups can get away with "Think Of The Children"... and it's worked quite successfully for them in the past....

But for this bunch.... what they thought was a clever attack, will certainly come back to haunt them.....

6. More From the Organisation That...
pioneered in violating the rights of children. Disgusting hypocrites. What about the rights of children of GLBT families. Oh, that's right--they don't have any rights.
