Homophobe daughter of MLK decides not to lead SCLC.
SCLC dodged a bullet on this one.

From the AJC today:

ATLANTA — The Rev. Bernice King says she will not assume the presidency of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Bernice King says she will not take over as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
MCT Bernice King says she will not take over as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

King was elected in October 2009 to lead the organization co-founded by her father, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., more than 50 years ago. Soon after, the SCLC's chairman was accused of financial mismanagement, and bitter infighting among the group's leaders landed the split factions in a courtroom.

King said Friday that she is shifting her attention to furthering her mother's legacy after dedicating "an exhaustive amount of time, energy and resources to assess the organization and prepare for my transition."

She says her vision did not align with that of the SCLC board. She notified board leadership of her decision on Thursday.

The "Reverend" Bernice King, noted homophobe who marched in opposition to gay marriage with alleged man-diddler "Bishop" Eddie Long in Atlanta, says she's going to continue her mother's work. That would be Coretta Scott King, who was NOT a homophobe; on the contrary, Mrs. King spoke to a group of black "pastors" in 2004 and said, "Gay and lesbian people have families, and their families should have legal protection, whether by marriage or civil union. A constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages is a form of gay bashing and it would do nothing at all to protect traditional marriage."
