Obama And Religion: Where Will He Stand On Same-Sex Marriage In 2012?
<http://equalitymatters.org/blog/201103100012>

When Mitchell Gold and Rev. Jimmy Creech went to visit staffers of presidential hopeful Barack Obama in 2006, they were told that the senator didn't support full marriage equality because of his religious views.

<snip>

"Oh, well that's religious-based bigotry," Gold remembers saying. "We've been down that road before when religion was used against people of color to support slavery, to deny integration, to deny interracial marriage -- used against women to deny them the right to vote."

The mood turned sour recalls Rev. Creech, an ordained Methodist minister who was defrocked in 1999 for performing a same-sex marriage. "They had a physical reaction to the word 'bigotry.' They did not like that -- they thought it was offensive," says Creech, who will be releasing a book later this month about his personal revelations as a minister serving gay and lesbian parishioners.

2. Hard to say.

Will his religion get in the way?

Or will his political standing?

Or will he just do the right thing and stand by the GLBT community and say your time has come to join your significant other in matrimony.

Not looking good for us IMHO.

3. How many times does he have to say he is against marriage equality?
Even though he was for it as a state senator.

13. Are you serious?!
You obviously are not well-informed. It is very important for him to take a stand. Equal rights are important...for everyone!

17. My thoughts exactly
question on my mind is, what will he do if he is re-elected, and he doesn't have a reason to pander as heavily(at least in my view, he won't have to pander as much).

18. I fear that he is not going to stop campaigning and start governing in a second term
or ever, to tell the truth. It would be nice to see him cut back on the calculation and triangulation and actually take a bold stand on something, but I don't think the man has it in him. I would love to be wrong about this, but Obama's defining leadership quality, so far, has been his extreme aversion to conflict.

19. Its a fear I share as well,
as stated numerous times, he seems to choose the wrong people to associate with, who have very hateful views against segments of society. His choice of using Warren, or McGlurkin(sp?), and his stance on Gay Marriage(he appears to me, to push for civil unions) doesn't bode well in terms of the actions, and choices he has currently made.

The repeal of DADT(I'm not 100% sure its been fully repealed as of yet, or if any tenents remain), to me was a significant step into the right direction, but outside of that, I haven't seen much else in terms of equality for GLBT.

22. And then even the "D" states hide behind phobic constituents.
Leaders lead. One as gifted in oratory as Obama should be able to sway people to the side of good inside of hiding behind, "But some people are evil, and really, where will you go?"
