OK so I've been thinking about this for a few days now. I eat chickfila you know, so I feel guilty about that.
If I was a smart businessman, I would want to reach out to everyone, gay, straight, nutbag or progressive. I'd want to target everyone and get them to buy my product. Hell, I'd even keep my business open on Sundays.
If I was an ideological businessman, I would reach out to a certain crowd, that shared my beliefs and I would make it known that they're my kind. And I'm theirs.
If I was a smart businessman, I'd care if I was losing money as a direct result of something I did or said.
If I was an ideological businessman, I wouldn't care about losing money as a result of saying or doing something I strongly believe in.
That said, I don't believe boycotts would be an effective way to get an ideological fast food mogul from ceasing to donate to causes that fight against marriage equality. This guy becomes empowered with every bit of publicity he gets over this issue. He don't care if you eat his sandwiches. He wants to let the world know what he believes in, and wants a certain crowd to know, they're his kind of customer.
If I was a smart fast food mogul, what would be my worst nightmare? My worst nightmare would be a widespread boycott and gaining notoriety for being discriminatory, political, or exclusive of any group of customer.
If I was an ideological fast foot mogul, what would be my worst nightmare? My worst nightmare would be my restaurants being associated with the antithesis of what I believe in.
Folks, lets do something. We're not going to get an ideological person to change their mind or stop contributing to hate groups. Especially when they announce to the world they do so. And especially when they are a privately held company that doesn't have to answer to shareholders.
If you boycott these restaurants, you're playing right into this guy's hands. Something tells me he doesn't want homosexuals eating at his restaurants. It's no sweat off his balls.
Nah. I propose that instead we start a revolution. You know how Disney has "gay day" ??? We need to spread the word that a certain day of the week is "Gay Day at Chickfila!"
In response to Dan Truett's welcoming video, I can't think of a better place to have weekly marriage equality gatherings than at chickfila restaurants. We should organize them.
We need to let all those churchgoing-"I-don't-care-if-you-starve-on-sunday"-zealots and their good Christian family customers know that Chickfila is *our* kind of place!
We should use all online media to get the word out.... Chickfila will be our family restaurant! Muahahahahahaha
An ideological fast food mogul may have a hard time explaining at his breeders-only marriage camp why his restaurant chain became infiltrated by our people.
Now you may be thinking that a tiny sliver of every sandwich is going to anti-equality causes. And you'd be right. But how long will it be before these groups don't want to be affiliated with gay-friendly, gay-marriage-rally-holding restaurants? That's the goal.
And if that doesn't work, once the Chickfila falls in love with us and all our money, then and only then will they feel the effect of a boycott.
So who's on board?
