Gay Rumors Drove Teen to Suicide
from Advocate.com

A U.K. high school student jumped to his death off a six-story building last year after classmates spread a rumor that he had kissed a boy during a game of “spin the bottle” on a school trip, an inquest heard earlier this week.

Fifteen-year-old Dominic Crouch was reportedly happy when he returned from an art class trip with his classmates at St. Edwards School in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, in May of last year, the inquest heard, according to Metro.co.uk.

But four days later. Crouch gained access to the roof at a locked block of apartments nearby called Withyholt Court and jumped.

Words are but units of sentences which are but units of ideas; which can change the world, for better or for worse. Let's remember that.

1. for some reason, it reminds me
of The Childrens Hour with A Hepburn and S McClain. The utter destructiveness of rumors and of course the love that dare not speak its name.

2. I haven't seen that movie
but I read the wiki and that's just heartbreaking. People don't realize what protections we need from the most simple and innocent seeming things. I had a friend who was friends with our right-wing teacher whose wife was the principal at the school and it was disgusting hearing them talk about other teachers. It was never in terms of their work abilities or anything, it was always the social view. Teachers won't be protected in order to "protect" the children, but then no one protects the children. It's all selective protection and everyone else gets attacked and pushed out of the circle, because they're different. It's really, really disgusting.

5. This is just another sad chapter
in our struggle for equality for everyone. It's very disturbing how cruel people can be to each other.
