The Lone Star ReportIn addition to reducing funding from family planning services (which are often provided by organizations that have affiliates that perform abortions), conservatives also reinforced traditional family values in the budget.
Rep. Garnet Coleman (D-Houston) tried to amend the budget to force school districts to report incidents "alleged discrimination or harassment" on the basis of "actual or perceived ethnicity, color, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or national origin" in the public schools. Rep. Jimmie Don Aycock (R-Killeen) moved to table the amendment, as he did every amendment that created a new study. During the debate, Aycock was asked if he got complaints to his legislative office about school bullying. Aycock replied that he hasn't received any phone calls about "gender identity" to his legislative office. The Coleman amendment was tabled (killed) 97-49. Many social conservatives are concerned with Democrats' anti-bullying legislation or amendments because they may lead to teaching or promoting homosexuality in public schools.

This is the kind of thinking that goes into hurting minority groups and causes. The politician, trying to promote a specific viewpoint or cause, denies anything else exists in their district or anywhere. Just like when the Iranian President denied gays existed in Iran. There's no gays in Texas, either,
and there never will!
