There are no gay rights issues that Barack Obama isn't willing to get behind |
|
that's GOT to be the case, because there sure aren't any gay rights issues that he's willing to get out in front of, and take the lead.

12. Maybe it's better this way... |
|
If his idea of compromise is giving the Repubs everything they want and more, then maybe it's better that he doesn't try to "compromise" on equal rights.
I shudder to think what "middle ground" would be invented between the status quo and Westboro.

That really hurt me, and totally embarrassed me, that a Dem President would do such a bigoted, discriminatory thing. nt

I had never thought of it that way, and it's true. ALL political questions have a social dimension. I guess some social issues are more "social" than others.

13. Why do you consider anything that doesn't directly affect you so unimportant? |
|
Because that's the impression I get from your post. And really, if you're so self-centered politically, how can you fault gay activists for being "selfish" themselves?

Why should he waste his time fighting social issues, because he has enough on his plate right now?
Did You Really Just Say That?
Back in control of the house... you are kidding, right?
What the hell happened to him when he was in control of the house?
Is this your way of saying shut the fuck up to the GLBTQI community?
... and if you feel this way about Queer issues... why, oh why are you trolling in the Queer posting area?
Are you here just to rub shit in people's faces?
More over, are you even Queer? If not, is this issue really any skin off your ass?

17. What does he have on his plate right now that isn't a social issue? |
|
Just curious how you define a social issue.
In my world, most of the things Obama "has on his plate" (interesting choice of words - is he going to eat them?) are essentially social issues - jobs, healthcare, wars, social security. How is human rights essentially different from protecting the rights of children, women, and the elderly?
I could see an argument for saying that the environment isn't really a social issue, but it certainly has strong social implications. Obama's record on protecting the environment is so poor - close to zero imo - if this is what is taking up all the real estate on "his plate" I'd just as soon he focus on something else. Benign neglect would be preferable to Obama's record as a fierce advocate for the environment.
Yeah, I'm gay and I care about the environment. I can multitask. Can Obama?

21. I want him to ignore us |
|
Watching him fuck up DADT repeal until Reid and Lieberman (!) had to save his sorry ass was enough to put me off asking this president for help on our issues. It's strictly amateur hour in this White House, and I'm tired of bothering about it. The man is simply in over his head.
We'll get there the same way we always have - by doing it ourselves.
Hell, look at those issues the President does pay attention to and what the poor and the powerless get at the end of it.
I can do without that kind of attention.
