Poll: Many Romanian teens rampantly intolerant of gays
(Bucharest, Romania) Teenagers in Romania are widely intolerant of gays and people with AIDS, according to a new poll that called the results “extremely worrisome.”

The findings published late Tuesday came from a poll paid for by the Soros Foundation and conducted in November. The report says the results show a large number of Romanian teenagers could be described as racist and anti-Semitic.

Homosexuals were rated as the least preferred neighbors, with three-quarters of those questioned saying they would not want gays living next door. That was followed by Gypsies and people with AIDS, which some two-thirds of respondents would not like to have as neighbors.

Romania decriminalized homosexuality in 2001 but prejudice remains, with the dominant Romanian Orthodox Church strongly opposing homosexuality. In 2007, police used tear gas and clashed with more than 100 protesters who attacked an annual gay rights parade with stones and fireworks.

5. Only if you bring the GLBT Romanian teens to the US
I know several Romanians and they are the sweetest kids you could hope to meet. They are, however, terrified of being known as gay, even in their own circles of friends.
You want to ship our filth to some other country, you need a plan to mitigate the ensuing damage to others who don't deserve it.

9. Doesn't that sort of mean they are homophobic? Does it matter if they are otherwise nice?
I hope I'm not coming off as argumentative, but this post sounds like a variation on, "Some of my best friends are Jewish, but..." If I honestly had a dollar for every guy like that I'd dated in my life, I'd have a lot of money.

It's not that I expect people from states of the former Soviet Union to be just as modern in values as we are, but I'm just trying to make sense of that post.

2. Wasn't Romania's accession to the EU stalled because of anti-gay laws?
Which were contrary to EU human rights rules?

6. Superstition...
Very superstitious, wash your face and hands,
Rid me of the problem, do all that you can,
Keep me in a daydream, keep me goin' strong,
You don't wanna save me, sad is my song.

When you believe in things that you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way, yeh, yeh.

Very superstitious, nothin' more to say,
Very superstitious, the devil's on his way,
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass,
Seven years of bad luck, good things in your past

When you believe in things that you don't understand,
Then you suffer,
Superstition ain't the way, no, no, no

10. Amen! From a Former Orthodox
You hit it on the head! My godson who is stereotypically gay, even though he is a monk, has been thrown out of two Orthodox churches in SF. I was too out for most of them, too. Mind you, he hasn't done anything but go into pray and attend Liturgy. Christianity, aomng the Orthodox, as many other "Christian" groups, is only for those who fit into their little paradigm.
