Schools Remain Unsafe For Gay Students Study Shows
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/10/101105schoolOut.htm

A new study, released to coincide with National Coming Out Day, shows that nearly a quarter of all LGBT students do not feel safe at school.

The study, conducted by Harris Interactive for the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, paints a disturbing picture.

It shows that 65% of all teens report that they have been verbally or physically harassed or assaulted during the past year. The study says that the harassment came about because of the teens' perceived or actual appearance, gender, sexual orientation, gender expression, race/ethnicity, disability or religion.

nice to see things haven't changed in the nearly 20 years since I graduated from high school

1. High School is suppose to be some of your best years in forming your life.
Mine were the scariest for me.

2. Ditto - and when you are not popular, you can't "score with the girls"
which also helps the labeling of being a "fag" . . .

4. I went to school in "gay-friendly" California
And yet it was no place to be for any "queer" - real or perceived.

I was so surprised when I arrived in NYC for college and homosexuality was considered within the norms!
