Lesbian Mom Discount Prompts Threats

A Brooklyn shop owner who has been offering a 10% discount to lesbian moms at her maternity store says she has been receiving threatening calls since the sale was promoted on the website Brokelyn.com.

Karen Paperno, who is not gay, says callers have talked to her about everything from sexism to the sanctity of marriage.

Paperno says she is now afraid to be alone at her shop at night, but says she has no plans to take her sign down — even if some of the callers have suggested she might be at risk for a discrimination suit.

“If she wants to offer a discount to a group she thinks is underprivileged, she’s entitled to,” discrimination lawyer Murray Schwartz told The Brooklyn Paper, adding that customers don’t have the same rights as employees. “Retailers can basically do whatever they want.”

let's say the Religious themepark don't allow gay couple on their property because it's their right, another independent business owner can't have disounts for a group of people of their choosing?

expecting a child?

It's usually pretty obvious who the two expecting parents are, even if they aren't standing next to each other. Mention the up-coming child and look for the two people who can't stop talking about their plans for the coming birth and the arrangements they are making, and can't stop smiling...

I'm sure there are some exceptions, where someone might be quiet and a bit stiff by nature, and might just stand without displaying much affection or enthusiasm. But most of the time it would be very obvious if two people are a couple.

In those few times when it isn't obvious, either you trust people and use the honor system or you simply say that in order to claim the discount you need to see an existing photo of the two of them together as a couple.

6. I Don't Like ANY Discounts for Moms, Lesbian or Otherwise, But...

I say the store owner shouldn't back down to the bigots. They threaten you and you keep every scrap of communication and show it to the cops. This is ridiculous. They can't keep their own goddamn marriages together but they can tell everyone else how to live and if they don't wan to do it, the bigots threaten harm and violence.
