Judge Refuses To Delay Gay Partner Ruling
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/10/101205michBens.htm

A Michigan judge has refused to delay implementing a ruling that a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage does not prevent the state from offering health insurance benefits to the same-sex partners of state workers.

Republican Attorney General Mike Cox had asked Judge Joyce Draganchuk to stay her ruling and prevent the state and the city of Kalamazoo from offering domestic partner benefits until the issue can be decided by the appellate courts.

Draganchuk ruled last month that health care benefits are benefits of employment, not marriage. (story)

3. Ha! That made me look at the topic too.
Of course, if he were, he'd be one of those closeted bureaucrats that shelve or veto pro-lgbt legislation while working the Gannon's website...

5. Good ruling!! !
It's about time these fundie wackos figure out that health benefits, along with just about most other "marriage" benefits, were not created to sanctify marriage, but to serve practical purposes in family life.

How arrogant of Republicans to suddenly contend that health care benefits are a 'right" of marriage, when the Party hates the notion of health care provided by any entity.
