Spokane Mayor James E. West used his city computer to get information about a gay man in California while he was there on a government-paid trip, a newspaper reported Friday.

A file on West's computer, matching the screen name of a young man whose profile is posted at Gay.com, was included in material released Thursday with the approval of West and his attorneys, The Spokesman-Review reported.

The mayor is fighting the release of about 1,800 other cached files from his city computer on the grounds that they are highly offensive and include "personal social contacts" who have an expectation of privacy. The files include photos and messages related to web sites like Gay.com, West and his attorneys have said.

He'd rather force the taxpayers to recall his sexual harassing self, rather than do the decent thing. He even admits that the emails will embarass a whole lot of people, but he's just trying to play the victim.
