Penn State Coach anti Lesbian
http://www.wacotrib.com/college/content/shared-gen/ap/General_College_Sports_News/Penn_State_Bias_Claim.html

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A gay rights advocacy group has accused Penn State women's basketball coach Rene Portland of forcing a player to transfer earlier this year out of bias against lesbians.

The National Center for Lesbian Rights asked president Graham Spanier on Tuesday for a meeting to discuss Portland's policies and the transfer of former player Jennifer Harris.

Karen Doering, Harris' attorney, said that for decades Portland has harassed players she believes are lesbians, told other players not to associate with them and described other programs as pro-gay to recruits.

2. How does Penn State stack up against "gay-friendly" schools on the court,
I wonder? Sounds like the coaching equivalent of barring blacks--obviously bigoted, and likely to put you at a serious competitive disadvantage.

3. Why would your sexual preference have anything to do with...
your ability to play basketball? What kind of a role model is that coach telling other players not to associate with lesbians and harassing players she believes are. Perhaps it is time for Portland to retire.

4. Oh, yeah. No room for lesbians in women's sports! Duh.
Is this coach INSANE?

5. Is this a school policy or just a RW bigot coach?
Unless this is school policy and publicly known, then this monsters authority should extend only to sports performance and academic performance and she has no right to discrminiate in regards to private activities, to include sexual preference.

The issue here, once again, is accepting creeping fascism and homophobia aimed at keeping gays either deep in the closet or they lose the means to excel, to prosper, to live and work.

The answer to this type of cheap bigotry is to litgate and hit them in their wallets.

She looks a little heavy in the loafers herself.

The schools sports web site: GoPSUsports and reads: gopsusports

I guess it's code for : gop sports.

>The epitome of a working parent, this mother of four has always found a way to balance every role she plays. A new role came into Portland’s life this spring when she and her husband, John, adopted nine-year-old Delisa. That family atmosphere extends to the Lady Lion program where the mantra “once a Lady Lion, always a Lady Lion,” rings true. That family atmosphere was especially true for four seasons, as Portland and her daughter, Christine (1996-99), combined for the second-ever mother-daughter, coach-player relationship in Division I basketball. Last season Portland had the opportunity to work with her youngest son, Stephen, as he took over the basketball operations position for the year. <
